KATHY JONES

Equine art, landscapes and animal portraits

Kathy Jones started taking art lessons at an early age after her parents noticed a talent for drawing. At the age of ten her family moved to Maryland where her love for horses developed. She spent much of her time riding and drawing her favorite animals. She continued taking art lessons, working in several different media. Prismacolor colored pencils became her favorite. Her works drew much praise for their attention to detail and photographic realism.

Kathy now lives in Texas with her husband and two children. Dedicated to working full time in her home studio she paints regularly in acrylic and colored pencil. Many of her paintings include her favorite animals, horses. She spends a lot of time photographing and videotaping her subjects trying to capture that fleeting gesture or pose that can be developed into a piece of art. She does a limited number of commissioned portraits of horses and pets.

In additon to horses, Kathy is also drawn to landscapes. She loves camping and hiking around Texas with camera in hand looking for compositions in the nature around her. She finds beauty in the faraway mountains as well as the rocks and plants nearby.

In the few years Kathy has exhibited pieces in several juried art shows. These include:
-The American Academy of Equine Art 2003 Fall Open Juried Exhibition
- The American Academy of Equine Art 2004 Fall Open Juried Exhibition.
-The Women Artists of the West 5th International Juried Exhibition
-The Visual Art Society Of Texas 36th Annual Fine Arts Exhibition
-The Finer Points Colored Pencil Art Exhibition 2005, Colored Pencil Society of America
-30th Annual Arlington Visual Arts Association Regional Exhibition
- 14th Colored Pencil Society of America International Exhibition
